Easter Baskets

Do you remember playing the game Colored Eggs when you were little? I remember many parties, play dates and recesses spent outside playing Colored Eggs.

Easter Egg Dye

One person is the “wolf”. The other people line up next to each other, with the wolf facing them. Everyone in line picks a color in their mind. The wolf then says…”knock-knock”, the line answers “who’s there?”. Wolf replies “a big bad wolf with (curly or some other variation) hair”.

The line says..”what do you want?” Wolf answers “colored eggs”. The line yells “what color?”. The wolf then says a color. Whoever had “picked” that color then runs around a selected area (to the far oak tree in the yard and back to the line, for example), with the wolf giving chase.

Easter eggs in progress

If the wolf catches the “egg”, then that person becomes the wolf with the game starting over. If not, and all eggs make it back to line successfully, the wolf then calls out the next color, etc.

Colored Eggs

With all of the colored eggs around this season, it has reminded me to teach my kids some of my favorite childhood games. What are some of yours?

I don’t know that game, but looking at your photos just brought back lovely memories of decorating eggs as a child with my Swiss aunty and cousins.

I hadn’t heard of that game either. We used to hunt eggs at my grandma’s house every year. I still miss it.

I don’t have any brother and sister so I don’t know that many games like that. It looks very fun and the colored eggs are lovely.

Wow, I have never heard of that one, although it sounds vaguely familiar to something, I’m sure.

I don’t remember any childhood games at the moment. I wish I did. I love to remind myself of the past.

    Great pictures, Jade.

Well, I remember that game from the 60’s. My Kentucky cousins taught us how to play and I’ve never played it anywhere else. I’ve never forgotten the fun we had. The only variation we had was that you were allowed to link hands and form a chain extending from base. This was called ‘electricity’ and if the egg touched hands with the end person before being tagged, it was the same as reaching base. I remember screaming a lot. :-)
