Note to Self

Posted in: out back

Geraniums are not deer resistant.

Devastation

I woke up bright and early to go look at all of my beautiful newly planted (by the moonlight mind you) geraniums.  As I was wiping the sleepy out of my eyes, it all came into focus.  Devastation.

Deer Buffet

We have somehow created a buffet for the deer and they keep coming back for more.

Needless to say I have plucked the sole survivors out of the ground and they have been transported to the decks, far away from harms nibble.

Oh, sad little plants…. At least you have the lovely ‘Planting Under the Moon Conversations’ memories.
Here, in Australia, we have possums and wallabies (small kangaroos) and bandicoots nibbling our gardens. (Well, in the bush anyway). In the city, we have possums and grasshoppers.

Oh no! That is pretty bad! Do you have a plan B for your garden? You must have fancy deers because the one that we have are not going after our geraniums (my mother’s house). However, if that could make you feel better, we have pervert deers. We have cedar trees around the house and the deers love to eat those trees. The thing is, the way that they eat the trees make our land looks like a parc full of…well…erected male attribute ;) That is very bad…but very funny!

You know when you emailed me and said there was a funny follow-up story? I thought to myself, ‘I hope it doesn’t involve deer’….

Oh honey. This memory is good from every angle. You’re going to get years of laughs from this. xoxo

Plan B is to either build a garden with a six foot fence around it or no garden at all. I’m still thinking this one over but it looks like there will be no garden. I will put as much as I can in pots on the decks. And I do still have the farmer’s market! ;)

Oh Tracy, my husband thinks the whole thing is hilarious. And I have to admit, it makes me laugh too. Figures!
