Making Music
I was greeted earlier this week by a sweet sound.
My youngest awoke from his nap, bright eyed and bushy headed. Playing the harmonica like he’s been doing it forever. Bopping up and down. Swaying back and forth. Making the most of the summertime blues.
As he was standing there, moving to his own beat, I looked at him and wondered how he got this big. When did my baby become a full fledged toddler? Next week is his second birthday and I’m starting to get a little sappy and reflective thinking about it. Slowing down to think about who he is. His spirit. And his quirky personality.
He’s now talking, the sing-songy voice much more pronounced and direct. The occasional ‘why’ to my demands. The ‘that’s hot’ to his food. The ‘uh-oh’ when things aren’t going quite as they should.
During the next week I want to slow down. Not the occasional rushing about to plan a party. No, that is not what his big day is about. It is about him. His sweet little life. And the joy he brings to ours.

Hey sweet boy! He’s getting so big. Have a great time at the party, and do slow down. It’s about him and his sweet little self, not about party favors and games. My favorite kind of party is the relax and enjoy kind. .
oh, what a wonderful picture.
sweet boy is definitely a toddler.
He’s adorable! My youngest just turned three, and it’s shocking because she was just a baby five minutes ago!
he needs a canoe. the lil cutie looks like he’s about to go down to the water
tom huck style.
Oh my gosh, what an adorable kid! That’s a beautiful photo of him.
I can almost hear the music in this picture. Two is my favorite age.
I found your blog today and am looking forward to poking through your archives. I’m enjoying your stories and wisdom, as we seem to be in the same life stage right now. I’ll be back often.
He is such a cutie! I love that harmonica music - wish we could hear it!
