Summer is officially here. School is out and our schedule is wide open. I can’t believe that Makena is already four and only has one more year of preschool before she goes to elementary shcool. This year was her first year at preschool and she loved every minute of it. Let’s see… she can now write her name, which still blows my mind. She LOVES art. Since school has been out she has requested to do art all day every day. I am not exagerrating in the least. She made a lot of friends at school, most of them boys. Aack!
Her body is starting to catch up with itself and she’s getting faster and gaining coordination. I used to joke that I didn’t give her the middle name of Grace by accident. With her dad that is 6′3″ and myself at 5′10″ I would assume she’s going to be a late bloomer in the coordination department.
With her newly found confidence and determination, she also knows what she wants and she wants it now. I don’t know where she gets this from (ahem). Makena has been asking to have her hair cut for quite some time. With the hot Texas summer and her long locks, tangles were imminent. If she didn’t have her hair in pigtails it was in braids. Always pulled back in some form or fashion. I finally caved in the other night and we went for the cut.
Waiting patiently to have her hair cut.
Going.
Going.
Gone. She had 8 inches cut off. That night I’ve never seen a kid with more spring in her step. She’s mighty proud of her new do, strutting around the house and such.
She immediately ran home and tried out all of her bows and clips in her hair to see which ones look best with this haircut. It was quite comical to watch.
Now she’s got a new cut perfect for summertime. And I actually think that’s the cut I was going for last time I had mine cut. My daughter has a much better cut than I got. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lifetime of this. I’m now the mom and I’m old.
I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend and I’ll see you on the other side. We’ve got barbeques galore planned for the weekend. None of which I have to cook. Amen.
