Is it Friday afternoon already? A few months ago it would be time for happy hour, now happy hour consists of an iced tea. Not that I’m complaining. What I am complaining about is maternity clothes. Seriously. I am having the hardest time finding clothes that I like. And if I go to one more garage sale and a woman tries to pass along her maternity work attire wardrobe I’m going to scream. What I always tell myself is, if you want something done do it yourself. So I made it myself.
I bought this dress about two years ago on clearance at Anthropologie. I know, it’s cute. But it’s always been way too short for my 5′10″ frame and it pooched in all the wrong places.
I loved the detail on it though and have kept it hanging in my closet. Never worn.
Until today. Today it became a skirt. Thanks to my budding little photographer Makena for the picture.
The lining it came with was a skin tight mini-dress. Not a good look for a preggo woman. So I cut up an old white sheet to make a simple white lining.
This was my first attempt at making a skirt and I’m not sure why I waited so long. It was easy and quick. No pattern necessary, just some sturdy elastic to keep it under my growing belly.
And it’s growing. This week I found out that the baby is the size of a small spaghetti squash. I love the Baby Center references to food products.
I’m wearing the skirt to a friends birthday party tonight at a restaurant on Lake Austin. Tomorrow we’re going to a wedding of two of my old students. Ah, how I love milestones. The celebration of life, of love, of friends.
Have a great weekend friends. Make it a good one.
