Yesterday, while taking the kids to pick up chinese take-out for dinner, Makena started asking me about Halloween.  ‘Tell me about Halloween mama.  You know what I want to be for halloween mama, a pirate!  Can you make my pirate costume?  Can you make me a hat?  When is Halloween?  Do we get to go out in the dark?  Oooh, scary!  Do we get candy?’  At about that last question my tea kettle went off and I felt like I was about to explode.

Halloween?  Seriously???

So I went on a not so proud mama tangent about all of the things that will happen between now and Halloween.  The Craft Hope book.  Daddy’s birthday.  Craft Hope project 3 deadline.  The Craft Hope book.  Needing to launch Craft Hope project 4.  The beach trip.  The Craft Hope book.  Maintain the Chik Austin blog.  Maintain the Craft Hope blog.  The Craft Hope book.  The Craft Hope book.  Keegan’s birthday.  My birthday.  The Craft Hope book.  The baby’s birth.  Pfew.

All the while I have a strong desire to nest.  Get ready for the baby.  And spend some quiet time alone writing the book.

my nest

So in true Jade ignores life when it gets too busy fashion, I’ve fluffed up my bedroom nest this week.  It’s my way of coping and controlling something around me (heck, I have no problem admitting to this).  Changing out linens.  Finding a great deal on this lamp, who has a mate on the other side of the bed.  Hanging my grandmother’s antique plates on the wall.  And actually using some of the vintage embroidered pillowcases I’ve found thrifting.  The baby will spend a lot of time with me in this space for the first few months so I wanted to get it ready.  And as you know, my craft space is in the corner of this room so I’m not far from connecting with all of you.

All of this to tell you, like you didn’t already know, my plate is full.  I’m doing my best to manage every aspect of my life.  And I really appreciate the support that I get from my friends in the blogosphere.  You are my rock.  You have changed my life.  And for that, I will be forever grateful.

I’m going to post on Craft Hope today some pictures of the beautiful items I’ve been receiving for the babies in India.  If you get a chance, go to the site and glance at the sidebar with the numbers count.  I am amazed and utterly grateful.

i remember hearing or reading somewhere along the line about how important it is to make your bedroom a sanctuary, a place you want to be, free from clutter and the chaos of the rest of your world. looks like you’ve made yourself a fine nest. enjoy!

Love your room, it makes me want to take a long nap. If only that were possible! Hang in there and give a yell if there is anything I can do to help you long distance-like.

Your bedroom looks really wonderful, and very inviting to curl up in that bed and take a long, long, (did I say long already?) nap :-) Goodluck with juggling all those things you’re doing. It’s a lot, but I’m sure you will make it work!

I am always amazed at how far ahead kids look. Mine has her next 5 birthday party themes planned (I can’t convince her that maybe her tastes will have changed between 4 and 9. She is very sure she wants a Sesame Street party for her 9th birthday. With Elmo cupcakes.)
Really though, it is amazing that you have carved out this place in your full life for Craft Hope. It is doing great things for so many. I love that when my daughter sees me making something from the fabric she picked out, her first question is “Is that for the babies in India?”
What an wonderful gift you have given to our family with this group of projects. Oh, I wanted to tell you we have put up a map of the world in our dining room and are putting pins in all of the places Craft Hope is helping people. My little one wants to put a pin in every country. Not a bad life goal, right?

Oh, yeah. We have those conversations often, and they usually end (much to my dismay) with me saying, “Seriously?! You have to stop — I can’t even talk about that right now.” Of course, this usually only buys about two minutes of quiet before we’re back on the same topic. ;)

I see someone else commented about the importance of the bedroom sanctuary, so I’ll just second it. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief every time you come through the door; how lovely! And you’ve completed something, which is always a good feeling, right?

of course, your bedroom is unbelievably beautiful…
as if I expected anything less.

and tell your lovely daughter that I’ve been thinking of halloween, myself…

and I thought I had alot coming up! You have quite a booked schedule. But– given the amazing way to seem to go above and beyond with grace, I have a feeling you will get that pirate costume done in time, too!

One day at a time, girl. I don’t know how you do it…but you are my inspiration. Remember to take care of yourself, though, or nobody will be happy (especailly the little pirate!). I’m thinking of you, and hoping you will go “easy” if you can…xoxox.

thanks y’all. you know, the bedroom (aside from the closets) was the last room in the house i really wanted to tackle. it was a MESS before. glad i was able to finally put to use some of the vintage things that have just been sitting around.

i am thinking that more naps are in order, especially before this little bundle of joy arrives!
